Community Strengthening Events are an opportunity to build relationships with the community through family centred events that highlight cultural and traditional activities with a social component. Currently these events run in both Lower Kootenay and ʔakisq̓nuk – Shuswap.
Lower Kootenay holds First Friday Community Dinners every month. These dinners began in September 2017 and have thrived since. They have become a wonderful way for the community to get together, connect and share good, nutritious food. These events have been well attended by all ages and extended families.
ʔakisq̓nuk and the Shuswap Band hold Community Strengthening Evenings several times a year. These events bring together the neighbouring communities of ʔakisq̓nuk and the Shuswap Band, and provide an opportunity for relationship building, cultural activities, celebrations and honourings, and events to connect with the land. Food and fun brings the community together.
